As far back as the early 20th century, the City’s “Greenhouse Park” was on the mind of many local artists. As the years passed, more artists began to draw in their own ideas.

One of those artists was the well-known Greenhouse Club owner, William Howard Taft.

It wasn’t until 1966 that Taft began his own collection of paintings, called the Greenhouse Gallery.

“I got more and more attention and I thought, ‘This is the first time we’re going to have a collection of painting that’s really unique,’ ” said Taft. The collection included his first work, which came out of the artist’s studio, while he was a photographer working under the pseudonym of “Jack” Sibbitt.
